Introduction Renewable Energy

Implementation of sustainable, clean power Initiatives at green Ro-Ro terminal

International Car Operators N.V., a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK Line commenced operation of 11 wind turbines in 2021 at the port of Zeebrugge, Belgium. These wind turbines generate around 110 GWh per year , covering all the power requirements of the terminal.Together with the terminal's existing solar panels, electric vehicles for operations, LEDs for the entire terminal, and a car wash water-recovery system, contributions are being made to create a more earth-friendly terminal.

  1. *The amount of power generated is equivalent to the annual consumption at about 30,000 ordinary households, and the CO2 emissions are expected to be reduced by about 50,000 tons.

Rooftop solar-power generation facilities at the NYK Tobitakyu general training institute have been working since 2002.
Consisting of six generators with 420 solar panels (120 centimeters by 80 centimeters) with a generating capacity of 50 kilowatts, equivalent to the power demand of approximately 15 households, the system can meet Approximately 30% of the electricity needs of the institute. Unused daytime capacity is sold to an electricity company.

October 2012

A solar energy generating system located at a warehouse owned by Yusen Logistics (Americas) Inc. in the U.S. state of New Jersey was connected to the electrical grid. The system is expected to generate about 650,000 kWh of electricity per year.
This project is eligible for Solar Renewable Energy Certificates offered by the State of New Jersey as well as a subsidy from the U.S. federal government, and will help promote the use of renewable energy sources.

June 2013

A solar energy generating system in Hokkaido was connected to the town of Yakumo's power grid in June 2013.
The system was installed on land owned by Taiheiyo Kisen Kaisha and is expected to generate 1,920,000 kWh of electricity per year.

July 2013

A solar energy generating system located at a warehouse owned by Geneq Inc. in Kitakyushu, Japan, was connected to the electrical grid on 12 July 2013. The system is expected to generate about 470,000 kWh of electricity per year. All generated solar energy will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Company Inc.

April 2014

A new solar energy facility that can generate 2.2 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual amount used by about 700 households, was connected to the Hokkaido city of Ishikari's power grid.
Moreover, NYK Trading will begin construction of the another solar energy facility, capable of generating 1.5 megawatts of power, in the Hokkaido city of Tomakomai, thus increasing power generation to 5.5 megawatts by solar facilities installed in Hokkaido by the company.

March 2015

A solar energy generating system in Hokkaido was connected to the city of Tomakomai's power grid. This solar energy facility can generate 1,700,000 kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the annual amount used by about 650 households.

December 2015

A solar energy generating system in Shanghai located on the rooftop of a vehicle processing center owned by NYK Automotive Logistics (China) Co., Ltd. was connected to the electrical grid. The system is expected to generate about 1,280,000 kWh of electricity per year.

This project is eligible for subsidy from the Chinese central government and city of Shanghai, and will help promote the use of renewable energy sources in China.
