Creating a workplace that recognizes diversity is highly valued
On November 7, NYK was given a silver rating in the 2023 PRIDE Index, a recognition based on an evaluation of LGBTQ+ initiatives in the workplace.
The PRIDE Index was initiated in 2016 by the General Incorporated Association "work with Pride" (wwP)* with the aim of creating a workplace where sexual minorities can work comfortably in Japan.
Companies are scored on five indicators — Policy, Representation, Inspiration, Development, and Engagement/Empowerment — and placed on a three-tiered scale of "Gold," "Silver," and "Bronze.”
NYK's initiatives are as follows:
- Supporting the Rainbow Communication Badge 2023 project sponsored by JobRainbow Inc., an LGBT support activity, and conducting awareness-raising activities in our group
- Conducting LGBT training for Human Resources Groupmembers
- Thoroughly promoting LGBT awareness through e-learning for all employees including those of Group companies, training for new employees and newly appointed managers, etc.
- Sponsoring a lecture by Kimiko Murofushi, former president of Ochanomizu University, the first women's university in Japan to announce that it would be admitting transgender students
- Distributing a human rights column on the company intranet
- Sharing initiatives on LGBT and other human rights issues with other companies and inviting experts to hold study sessions, etc. through the Mitsubishi Human Rights Enlightenment Committee, in which we participate
