Automotive Business Division Initiatives ~Global SQC (Safety & Quality Committee)
Over its 55-year history, Automotive Business organization has made quality control its top priority. Since automobiles are loaded and unloaded on vessels by self-propelled, utmost careful work is required from driving to opening/closing doors to avoid even the slightest damage. Therefore, to ensure optimal safety and quality control, stevedore companies, onshore managers, and all other relevant parties have to work together.
Our group has established Global SQC (Safety & Quality Committee)* both in Japan and overseas to improve safety and quality.
- *Global SQC (Safety & Quality Committee)
The committee aims to improve safety and quality, consists of three pillars including not only cargo quality but also vessel quality and operation quality. As part of its activities, the committee holds regular plenary meeting with relevant parties all over the world to share its philosophy and hold workshops and exchanges of opinions to prevent accidents.
Safe Cargo Operation Guidelines for Bulk Carriers
The Group's bulk carrier business has released a digital version of its "Essential-15"* safe cargo operation guidelines for the high quality transport of dry bulk business cargo. The new, multilingual version includes digital animations and replaces the previous version, which was a paper document. NYK has distributed the updated guidelines to total of 210 NYK-operated bulk carriers through shipowners and shipmanagement companies (as of October 2023).
- *Essential-15
The "Essential-15" safe cargo operation guidelines were created by selecting 15 items considered to be indispensable for safe cargo operations. Officers and operators of capsize and panamax bulk carriers, among other bulkers, make use of the guidelines to prevent serious accidents during cargo handling.
